Biography
Vancouver indie pop trio Bella features Cameron Fraser, Tiffany Garrett Sotomayor, and Charla McCucheon, who rotate instruments and alternate lead vocal duties across an approachable retro-danceable shoegaze-pop sound that would fit the description if the category actually existed. Their tracks rely on basic drum machine rhythms, crisp guitars, Casios, and shifting boy/girl or girl/boy vocal harmonies that adjust according to whichever member steps forward, all set within an electro-clash of light vocals and buoyant pop structures. Producer Colin Stewart (Hot Hot Heat, Black Mountain) guided the sessions for their first album, Pretty Mess, which they completed in 2004. Following a run of shows throughout autumn 2006, the group issued a split 7" alongside Alberta's Columbus before signing with Mint Records in February 2007 and delivering the follow-up full-length No One Will Know.
