Beltline first emerged in 1997 as an intimate bedroom recording endeavor built solely around a mini-synthesizer and four-track recorder. The project later extended its reach through repeated basement and club shows across the Northwestern United States. Drawing on a selection of melancholy pop tunes supported by drums, bass, cello, keyboards, and guitars, the band supplied material to multiple compilations ahead of Jealous Butcher Records issuing its debut full-length, These Things You Do at 4am, in 2001.
