Originating from an '80s sitcom title, Belvedere formed late in 1995 in Calgary, Alberta, as a trio consisting of Steve Rawles on guitar and vocals, Brock on bass, and Dan Hrynuik on drums. Their melodic pop-punk approach, modeled on Bad Religion and NOFX, stayed consistent despite an evolving roster. Scott Solo, also known as Scott Marshall, was added on second guitar, Jay Hollywood replaced the original drummer, and Jason Sinclair became the new bassist. The resulting quartet issued its debut album, Because No One Stopped Us, in 1998 on Hourglass and 206 Records. After extensive touring in 1999, including a stretch with Bad Religion and Strung Out, 206 Records released the follow-up Angels Live in My Town in early 2000. Montreal's Union 2112 label put out 'Twas Hell Said Former Child in 2001; this proper second album accompanied the band's first European tour. A split with Downway titled Hometown Advantage appeared in 2003. The group then recorded Fast Forward Eats the Tape in Calgary with producer Blair Calibaba of Sum 41, after which spring 2004 brought shared bills with Death by Stereo, Tsunami Bomb, and Misconduct. Rawles, Marshall, Sinclair, and drummer Graham Churchill ended the band's run in 2005.
