Biography
From their New Jersey home base, the married couple comprising indie folk outfit Ben + Vesper shape understated pop curiosities powered by guitar and accordion, in a manner reminiscent of the Handsome Family, Half-Handed Cloud, and Ida. Having refined their approach through both live shows and recording work, the one-time art school attendees forwarded a demo to Danielson Famile mastermind Daniel Smith, which yielded the 2006 EP More Questions on his Sounds Familyre label. Their debut full-length, 2007's All This Could Kill You, included contributions from frequent Smith collaborators Elin and David Smith alongside family friend Sufjan Stevens. Ben + Vesper reunited with Stevens in 2010 for the production, arrangement, and recording of their five-song LuvInIdleness EP. The following year the duo issued its second album, HONORS, drawing on the usual indie roster that encompassed Stevens, Danielson's Josh Stamper, and two members of Holler, Wild Rose!.
