Biography
A commanding vocalist whose world-weary tone defines his contemporary country sound, Ben Burgess first built his reputation behind the scenes, securing an early songwriting placement on Jonas Brothers' "Chillin' in the Summertime" for the 2010 soundtrack JONAS L.A. and later co-authoring tracks that included Martin Garrix and Troye Sivan's "There for You," Morgan Wallen's "Whiskey Glasses," and Tyler Rich's "The Difference." After years of issuing his own recordings independently, the East Dallas, Texas native—born Benjamin Beauregard Burgess—delivered his first official label album, Tears the Size of Texas, on Big Loud Records in September 2022 at age 37, drawing thematic fuel from classic cowboy LPs and Western cinema.
Restless stretches in Dallas, Austin, and Los Angeles tested the budding songwriter before he settled in Nashville, where sessions alongside Ashley Gorley, Jesse Frasure, and Randy Montana quickly followed; during that period he issued the self-released Down in Georgia in 2014. Warner Chappell Music Publishing signed him in 2015, opening the door to further cuts such as Pat Green's "Drinkin' Days" and the platinum-certified "There for You," plus multi-platinum status for "Whiskey Glasses." Big Loud Records brought him aboard as a solo act in 2020, and the following year he appeared with David Lee Murphy and labelmate ERNEST on "Red Dirt Clouds" from the country mixtape Hixtape, Vol. 2.
Label co-founder Joey Moi produced the 2022 full-length, which explicitly nodded to Marty Robbins' Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs alongside the cinematic Western tradition that had long shaped Burgess's vision.
