Biography
New York City native Ben Green, working as a singer and songwriter, first sat at the piano when he reached age three and began composing material well before entering his teenage years. While enrolled at Skidmore College he took to visiting folk clubs on a regular basis, an activity that refined his craft and opened the door to several years of circulating demonstration tapes and playing live shows once he had earned his degree. In 1990 Green obtained both a publishing arrangement with EMI and a recording contract with SBK Records, though the latter label shut down before any project could be issued. His time there did lead to an introduction to labelmate Francesca Beghe, who later became his wife. Songwriting placements followed on albums by Warren Hill and Shirley Murdock. Green’s first appearance as a recording artist occurred with the self-titled album released in 2002, which drew on seasoned session contributors including Knox Chandler and “T-Bone” Wolk and featured his interpretation of “Names on a Wall,” the song Beghe had written and placed on her own 1989 SBK release. The resulting set of adult-oriented pop yielded the radio single “Two to One.”
