Biography
Operating under the Beneather name, North London musician Lewis Young shapes an especially ethereal strain of ambient pop, submerging murmured vocals and occasionally near-inaudible beats beneath thick strata of atmospheric haze. On the self-titled 2022 debut, Young examined tape loops, production drenched in reverb, and a cinematic lens on lo-fi dream pop.
Lewis Young entered the music scene as a producer and multi-instrumentalist, contributing to various groups before introducing Beneather as a solo endeavor in the 2020s. He began on guitar in the math rock band Tea with the Queen, moved to bass for Naomi Hates Humans, and later handled drums in the Leaf Library. Pursuing a sound more experimental and expressionistic than those ensembles supplied, he initiated electronic loops and progressively enriched them with sparse instrumentation and textural elements. The initial grouping of such material surfaced as Beneather’s self-titled full-length debut in May 2022.
