Benedek

Nicky Benedek drew from post-disco R&B, the early house sounds that emerged from it, and the progressive funk associated with Dâm-Funk. A native of Los Angeles, he launched his recording career after approaching Dâm-Funk during a Funkmosphere event in Culver City. Dâm-Funk supplied the lyrics and vocals for “That’s My Jam!,” which appeared as the A-side of Benedek’s debut 7-inch single on the Proximal label in 2011. Two years afterward, Peoples Potential Unlimited released an untitled album by the artist. Several 12-inch singles came out in 2015 and 2016, one of them a collaboration with Martine Syms, before Benedek finished the Bene’s World LP that Leaving put out in 2017. Tracks issued under the names C.O.O.L. Band and Manzanem represent further work from Benedek, who has also partnered with Delroy Edwards on material credited to Rx.
