Biography
Forming the duo Bert & Ray, Link Wray performed on guitar under the alias Bert while Ray Scearce handled steel guitar, yielding a scarce instrumental release on the Alpine label in 1960 titled "Night Life"/"Slow Drag." The opening track functions as a straightforward R&B-flavored chugger bearing close likeness to Bill Doggett's "Honky Tonk," whereas "Slow Drag" follows the approach associated with Santo & Johnny by spotlighting Scearce's measured steel lines. Both selections later appeared on the Link Wray anthology Slinky! The Epic Sessions 1958-1961.
