Beth Whitney, a singer-songwriter rooted in the Pacific Northwest, shapes her material under the sway of 1970s classic folk-rock ensembles as well as current acoustic-music contemporaries. She grew up in Snohomish, WA, where a church service first placed a guitar in her hands at age sixteen. Teaching herself to play, she quickly developed a deep passion for songwriting and kept refining her craft after finishing high school and entering college. While attending Whitworth University, the Presbyterian-affiliated school in Spokane, WA, she met fellow student and upright bassist Aaron Fishburn in 2004. Their individual styles proved mutually complementary, prompting the two to appear as a duo at venues across the Pacific Northwest and steadily assemble a local following. Whitney’s songs caught the attention of Malamute Records, the independent Seattle label, which issued the duo’s debut album, Leave Your Shoes, in 2007.
