Biography
Beth Wood brings a roots-oriented style to both her electric pop and rock material and her acoustic folk performances. As a multi-talented vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist, she has called various regions of Texas and the Deep South home over the years and now makes her home in Eugene, Oregon. Possessing a wide vocal range, Wood grew up in Lubbock, Texas, where her high-school choir experience led her to pursue vocal studies for two years at Brevard College in North Carolina. Upon returning to Texas, she completed a literature degree at the University of Texas at Austin and immersed herself in the local music community there. She later spent time in Asheville, North Carolina, before settling in Atlanta and securing a recording contract with Autonomous Records in 1996. Her first release, Wood Work, appeared in 1997, with New Blood following the next year. The label’s closure just three months after the second album’s launch left both projects without distribution. Wood then self-released her third effort, Late Night Radio, which she recorded on her own in 1999. Additional projects she has issued include Ghostwriter in 2001, You Take the Wheel in 2003, Marigolds in 2005, Beachcomber’s Daughter in 2008, The Weather Inside in 2011, and Sometimes Love in 2014. The final title drew from selections in her Song of the Month club, launched the previous year.
