Enthralled by Miz Kitty’s delivery as one of the group’s vocalists, Betty Already blended their punk foundation—marked by blunt straight-edge lyrics—with plain pop inflections. The band formed in Portland in 1998 and swiftly ranked among the city’s most ferocious acts, propelled by explosive live shows. Scott Young supplied vocals and guitar alongside charming vocalist Miz Kitty, drummer Postman, guitarist Murphy, and bassist Icky Boom; the lineup leaned on Young’s songwriting, since he penned most of the material. Repeated club dates across Portland gradually expanded their audience. After more than a year of mounting stage appearances, the musicians entered the studio to cut their debut full-length. In 2000 the self-released album Amerimaniacs reached stores. The Portland unit kept advancing its artistic aims through countless further live outings.
