Biography
Forming an eclectic indie rock quartet in Boston, Betwixt brings together guitarist Tom Devaney, cellist Gordon Withers, drummer Dave Nelson, and vocalist Leah Callahan. Previously a member of Turkish Delight, Callahan initiated work with Withers and Devaney, resulting in the 1998 debut Moustache, which featured original drummer Chris Foley. The album drew widespread praise both inside and outside Boston, earning spots on year-end best lists from the Boston Phoenix and the Boston Herald, while The Noise named Betwixt the city’s top new act. Once Foley departed, Nelson—another Turkish Delight alumnus—came aboard in time to appear on the follow-up, 1999’s The Salty Tang.
