Biography
Robert Yang of San Francisco shapes retro-futuristic electronic music as Bézier by working exclusively with analog synthesizers. His productions draw on an array of sources that span Hi-NRG and Italo-disco through new wave and synth punk. He first performed as a DJ under the alias Robot Hustle in 2003 and began assembling a home recording studio two years later. Yang entered the Honey Soundsystem collective in 2007; the following year the group inaugurated a popular weekly party series while continuing to play regularly across multiple continents. After a limited cassette appeared in 2012, his debut vinyl outing arrived as the 2013 EP Ensconced on Dark Entries, the label operated by fellow Honey Soundsystem member Josh Cheon. Two further records followed in 2015—Telomeres, again on Dark Entries, and Mina on the collective’s HNYTRX imprint—both mixed by Mark Pistel of Consolidated and Meat Beat Manifesto. In 2016 he issued Cosmologist on HNYTRX and shared a split EP with Fort Romeau on the Cin Cin label; Dark Entries then released Primes in 2017. The same label put out Yang’s debut album, Parler Musique, the next year.
