Biography
A.B. Quintanilla launched his hip-hop/traditional Mexican fusion project Big Circo with the album Yo No Fui. Fronted by singer/songwriter and accordionist Big Boy, who had previously been employed by the popular norteño act Big Circo, the group consists of an assortment of characters: Fantasma ("Phantom"), Mini-Mosca ("Little Fly"), Joker, Diablito ("Little Devil"), Shades, and Mister Blue. Traditional Latin instruments such as the hand-drum conga, the Mexican bass guitar known as bajo sexto, and the guiro, a percussion instrument played by scraping the surface with a stick, are employed by the band while still producing an alternative sound.
