Established around 2001 in Los Angeles, Big City Rock embodied their moniker through upbeat rock tracks dense with keyboards, openly channeling 1980s pop while projecting the stadium-scale ambition that U2 championed. Navigating the dense local circuit, the group reached the point of supporting sold-out Rooney and Phantom Planet concerts by the close of 2002. That year they issued the initial entry in a pair of self-titled EPs on their own, issuing the follow-up twelve months afterward. Supporting Maroon 5 on the road throughout autumn 2003 expanded their audience along the entire West Coast. October 2004 brought a third self-titled EP that paired freshly tracked renditions of earlier material with three live cuts and an acoustic take on “All the Way.” Retaining their aversion to distinct album titles, Big City Rock—comprising Nate Bott on vocals and guitar, Frank Staniszewski on keyboards, Timothy Resudek on bass, Kaumyar on drums, and Andy Barr on guitar—delivered their self-titled debut album via Atlantic Records in March 2006.
