Big Mama

Big Mama, a vocal ensemble made up entirely of South Korean women, distinguished itself from the wider K-Pop landscape—and drew its name from that same distinction—by refusing the inflexible standards of looks and body size expected of ordinary female idols. Yeon Ah Shin, Young Hyun Lee, Ji Young Lee, and Min Hye Park were assembled by M-Boat, a YG Entertainment subsidiary, and issued their debut album, Like the Bible, in 2003. It’s Unique appeared in 2005, For the People in 2006, and Blossom in 2007, after which the group switched promoters and producers to Manwalldang.
