Biography
Bikram Ghosh, born in India, has achieved mastery over the tabla. Beyond his solo performances and recordings, he has collaborated with prominent Indian artists including Ravi Shankar, Aki Akbar Khan, V.M. Bhatt, and Tatun Bhattacharya. Music has always been central to his existence. His mother Sanjukta Ghosh pursues a career as a classical Indian vocalist, whereas his father Pandit Shankar Ghosh ranks among the earliest Indian performers to appear in the United States and has led an all-drum orchestra from 1976 onward. Ghosh began treating his father's tablas as playthings when he reached two years of age. At six, he commenced formal sarod instruction with Ustad Dhyanesh Khan, son of Ali Akbar Khan. Although he subsequently trained in mrdangam with Pandit S. Shekhar, he maintained the tabla as his preferred instrument. His debut recital took place in Calcutta when he was ten. The majority of his childhood unfolded in San Rafael, California, after which he went back to India for middle school, where he joined school bands on congas. During spring 1997 he accompanied Ravi Shankar on an American tour, followed later in the year by another tour alongside Tatun Bhattacharya. Ghosh possesses a master's degree in English Literature.
