Biography
Pittsburgh-born Bill Deasy launched his musical path as a member of the Gathering Field, whose debut album Lost in America drew interest from Atlantic executives after local radio stations placed it in heavy rotation. The label gave the project a 1996 reissue, yet both the record and the group soon faded from view amid Atlantic’s corporate reorganization. The band pressed ahead independently, issuing several additional albums, until Deasy accumulated material he considered unsuitable for the group’s direction. He stepped out with his debut solo effort, Spring Lies Waiting, in 1999, assembling those songs while also collaborating on new material with Bijou Phillips and Kim Richey. His profile rose sharply in 2001 once Good Morning America adopted the track “Good Things Are Happening” for promotional use. Deasy then began recording his follow-up solo album, Good Day No Rain, which Bound to Be Records issued in early 2003; Chasing Down A Spark appeared two years later.
