Biography
Born Wright Birmingham on 9 January 1937 in Saginaw, Michigan, the musician who performed as Jones headed to Chicago near the start of the 1950s. There he played saxophone and guitar in an assortment of blues groups across that decade. By its midpoint he had cut sides for Ebony and displayed considerable skill at mimicking Little Walter’s harmonica approach. Although a 1965 date for Vivid stayed unreleased for an extended period, the results fell short of what the earlier Ebony 78 had suggested. He resumed performing in clubs yet had largely stepped away from the music industry by the middle of the 1970s.
