Bivouac took shape in the opening years of the 1990s within West Yorkshire, Britain, built around singer and guitarist Paul Yeadon, bassist Granville Marsden, and drummer Keith York. Early recordings displayed robust melodic hooks paired with forceful guitar textures that echoed the approach of Teenage Fanclub and Superchunk. That immediate cohesion prompted Elemental Records to offer the trio a deal after just a handful of live appearances and a single demo tape. Two full-length projects appeared on the label: Derby & Joan in 1993 and Tuber the following year. Both achieved notable success within independent circles, prompting label founder Nick Evans to urge the musicians toward a larger platform. Once independent again, the group signed with DGC and issued Full Size Boy, which earned favorable notices yet failed to connect with a wider audience. Quiet dissolution followed this commercial shortfall, after which Yeadon contributed to projects by Pitchshifter.
