Biography
Bizarre Inc. emerged as a British acid-house outfit driven chiefly by the DJ trio of Andrew Meecham, Dean Meredith, and Carl Turner. Mark Archer of Altern 8 participated from the outset as a founding member, and vocalists Angie Brown along with Yvonne Yanni joined the lineup afterward. Assembled in the Stafford vicinity, the act registered an instant breakthrough via its opening 1991 single “Playing with Knives,” a major club success that climbed to number one on the UK dance charts. The follow-up cuts “X-Static,” “Plutonic,” and “Raise Me” arrived ahead of the 1992 debut album Energique. Next came the single “I’m Gonna Get You,” which registered on the American pop charts in 1993, after which the group withdrew from the club circuit for several years. Its reappearance in 1996 with Surprise and the 1999 single “Playing with Knives” stirred minimal notice.
