Biography
Distinguished from Ladysmith Black Mambazo—whose name denotes black ax—another ensemble rose to prominence in the 1950s by performing kwele-style pennywhistle music. Their players angled the flute unusually, yielding an array of fresh timbres. Worldwide success arrived in 1957 with the single "Tom Hark."
