Biography
England's Black Submarine took shape with Nick McCabe and Simon Jones, both previously of the Verve, alongside multi-instrumentalist Davide Rossi, ex-Portishead drummer Michele Schillace, and vocalist Amelia Tucker. The group first assembled as Black Ships and issued their debut EP, Kurofune, under that name in 2011, only switching to the current moniker after a conflict arose with an American electronic act. Drawing on what they termed a blend of "spaced-out vocals, deep beats, rolling basslines, molten soundscapes, meditative chord sequences, and explosive string arrangements," the newly renamed band supplied music for a 2013 Indonesian action movie featuring Mickey Rourke and later set the release window for their first full-length effort, the self-issued New Shores, in 2014.
