Biography
Emerging from Los Angeles, Blackcowboy fuse the energetic drive of alternative rock acts such as Maroon 5 with the atmospheric textures associated with Coldplay and Radiohead. The group’s story reaches back to the early 1990s, when Jonah Johnson and Richard “Pookie” Woods first crossed paths. Steady gigs at Hollywood spots including the Viper Room and the Roxy gradually built a devoted local audience. Momentum shifted in 2008 when the band appeared alongside Sheryl Crow and Gavin Rossdale at the Global Green pre-Oscar party. Johnson’s solo single “With You” landed on the My Sister’s Keeper soundtrack the following year, while the group’s own cuts “Lukas” and “Come On” were placed in Rest Stop: Don’t Look Back. That same year brought word of a partnership with Fred Durst to record and co-produce the debut album.
