Blackwell, a Texas-based rock and roll group, issued four singles across two years through the interstellar Astro label, although the outfit’s recognition never expanded past regional boundaries. Of its lineup, keyboard noodler John "Rabbit" Bundrick alone reached international rock prominence, first as a member of Free and later as a peripheral musical associate within the Who’s extended circle. Glenn Gibson, the vocalist not to be confused with a well-worn songwriting pseudonym of the ’50s, possessed an extremely appealing voice that helped secure heavy airplay in Texas for the band’s first single, “Wonderful,” while additional tracks such as the 1969 “Outside” later received small transfusions of attention via reissue compilations carrying far-out titles such as Acid Visions: The Complete Collection, Vol. 1 and ’69 Love-In.
