Biography
Blight came out of Lansing, Michigan, as one among many American hardcore groups that felt the influence of Tesco Vee, here channeled through a studied and less vulgar lens. The band lasted only six months in the early 1980s, long enough to put out a six-track 7" single in 1983 and to open for the Dead Kennedys. While countless other hardcore outfits appeared and vanished in that same brief window, Blight’s scant recorded legacy formed part of the core catalog that shaped the Midwest’s lasting mark on the wider national scene. Their lone release, Detroit: The Dream Is Dead, was later expanded by Touch & Go into a 2006 CD edition titled Detroit: The Dream Is Dead (The Collected Works of a Midwest Hardcore Noise Band 1982), adding demos and the live recording from the Dead Kennedys show to the original six tracks.
