Biography
Blood Meridian originated when Matt Camirand, the band’s singer, songwriter, and guitarist, helped form the project in a hotel room while touring with the Black Halos. Taking its name from the Cormac McCarthy novel, the group set out to fuse punk, Americana, and rock. Vancouver musicians soon joined: Joshua Wells, already Camirand’s bandmate in Pink Mountaintops and Black Mountain, on drums; Kevin Grant on bass; Jeff Lee on guitar; and Shira Blustein on organ and piano. The expanded lineup drew notice throughout Canada and led to the release of the band’s V2 debut, Kick Up the Dust, in 2006.
