Biography
Bloody Beach is an indie rock ensemble from Bergen, Norway’s local scene, where established session and touring players mingle with transient members to produce their self-described “psych-surf-dub-rock.” The project began in 2007 after bassist/vocalist Chris Holm of the Alexandria Quartet and Young Dreams met guitarist Anders Winsents of Lorraine and Blackroom while traveling on a tour bus for unrelated gigs. The two decided to start something together and soon brought in Arne Håkon Tjelle of Catastrophes to handle lead vocals along with drummer Kim Åge Furuhaug, also of the Alexandria Quartet and Young Dreams.
The band’s first outing, the Bonanza EP, appeared in 2010 as a free download. Its title track received exposure on the NRK music program Lydverket, prompting European tours and festival slots that included an appearance at South by Southwest in Texas in March 2012. Later that year synth player Erlend Alm Lerstad of Mahogni joined, rounding out the quintet. Their full-length debut, Bloody Beach Pirate Radio Presents, came out on the Bergen-based Nabovarsel label in 2014. The summery, kaleidoscopic, and difficult-to-Google follow-up Boys arrived on Brilliance Records in August 2017.
