Blue Diamond Shine took shape in Austin, Texas, during the final years of the 1990s, drawing its name from the Canadian country-rock group Blue Rodeo and the song “Diamond Mine.” Following a series of local appearances across the Austin club scene, the band booked studio time in 1998 to lay down its first full-length recording. Released the next year, the self-titled debut immediately invited comparisons to Wilco, Gram Parsons, the Old 97s, and Waylon Jennings. Austin-area reviewers also singled out the record’s blend of country and rock elements for particular commendation. The ensemble next issued That God Forsaken Road through Entwine Records in 2002. Since then the group has traveled extensively across the United States while appearing at numerous industry showcases.
