Blushhh Music unites rappers Bunni Ray and Sunnie with singer Tali in a lively blend of current pop-rap and R&B. Matthew Knowles, the experienced industry figure and Beyoncé’s father, placed the trio on his Music World imprint during 2014. Following an intensive stretch of preparation, the group issued its first recording in 2016, the single “Old School Back,” whose sound leaned more toward early- to mid-’90s references—particularly echoes of TLC, Da Brat, and Lil’ Kim—than the late-’70s or early-’80s approach heard from the Sequence and Roxanne Shanté. Their debut album, Old School Hip Hop Past, Present, and Future, appeared before the year ended.
