Biography
Blvd Benny, the rapper born in Brooklyn yet raised in Jamaica, Queens, first gained traction serving as hype man and opening performer for his close friend Craig Mack. His 2000 victory in the Coca Cola True Talent Search at the Apollo Theater secured a featured role in a Coke television commercial, after which he shifted focus in 2002 to crafting material for fellow recording artists. Benny honored his parents’ Ecuadorian roots by appearing on the 2005 UNICEF charity single “Nino Esperanza,” whose proceeds supported the organization. Stepping forward in 2008, he issued a run of mixtapes that included The Formula, created alongside DJ Absolut.
