Bob Cheevers, a contemporary folk singer and songwriter, spent his formative years in Memphis. After finishing college he headed west to California, where he secured a solo contract with Dot Records and soon emerged as the lead vocalist for the bubblegum outfit Peppermint Trolley Company. The group notched a modest chart entry with “Baby You Come Rollin’ Across My Mind” and released its self-titled LP on Acta in 1968, yet it is chiefly remembered for recording the theme songs to the popular sitcoms Love, American Style and, in its debut season, The Brady Bunch. Once the band dissolved, Cheevers took staff-songwriting positions at publishers such as MCA Music and Cobra Music while continuing to play local club showcases. He relocated to Nashville in 1991 and captured the Kerrville New Folk Competition three years afterward. His return to recording arrived with the 1997 album Gettysburg to Graceland, which was followed in 1999 by The Stories I Write.
