Bob Durand never joined the Beau Brummels yet supplied lyrics for multiple tracks by the band’s chief composer and lead guitarist, Ron Elliott. Among those pieces were the chart success “Just a Little” and several selections on the group’s 1967 LP Triangle. The pair had been classmates in high school; while Elliott frequently composed by himself or with other collaborators, notably Beau Brummels vocalist Sal Valentino, Durand contributed the words whenever the two worked jointly. A pair of their co-written songs that the Beau Brummels left unreleased later appeared on a 1967 single by the little-known San Francisco band the Styx, issued as “Hey, I’m Lost” backed with “Puppetmaster.”
