Biography
Many regard Boban Markovic as a leading figure among Balkan trumpeters. As head of the Boban Markovic Orkestar, this versatile artist has expanded the boundaries of brass band traditions. Born in Vladicin Han, Serbia, he has established himself directing one of Europe's most decorated brass ensembles. For over seventeen years the group has performed across close to thirty nations, among them the United States, Israel, and Russia, once even postponing an Oasis concert. Ten albums mark their output to date, beginning with Hani Rumba in 1997 and continuing through Go Marko Go! in 2007. Markovic's trumpet prowess has sometimes earned accolades so substantial that he has chosen to withdraw from further competition in select events. Preserving his influence within the Gypsy tradition, his son Marko now joins him for regular performances.
