Biography
In 1955 Bobby Austin relocated from Wisconsin to Los Angeles and took the bass chair in Wynn Stewart’s band. Before Capitol Records signed him in 1962, he logged session dates with Buck Owens and Tommy Collins. Teaming with Johnny Paycheck, he wrote the 1966 release “Apartment No. 9,” which the Academy of Country Music named Song of the Year and which became Tammy Wynette’s first hit the next year. Glen Campbell scored a hit with “Try a Little Kindness,” and “Knoxville Station” reached the charts in 1972.
