Biography
Born on 11 September 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, USA, and deceased there on 6 January 1981, Fields brought his earthy tenor saxophone to countless blues and R&B sessions. Among them were dates with vocalist Ricky Allen for Age Records in Chicago in 1963, sides cut in Memphis in 1954 by pianist Billy ‘The Kid’ Emerson that also included Herman P. Blount before he adopted the name Sun Ra, and Ike Turner, plus further work alongside Earl Hooker, B.B. King, and Otis Spann. Over an extended period he recorded regularly with Buddy Guy, his incisive solos heightening the already charged performances.
