Born Robert Gubby on 23 August 1953 in Epsom, Surrey, England, he performed as vocalist for Bucks Fizz, the UK act that won the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest. His first solo single, ‘Big Deal,’ was commissioned by the BBC to serve as the theme for an acclaimed British television drama series that starred Ray Brooks. Although the track appeared on the charts three times, it never climbed to any significant peak. After issuing the single he resumed his work with the hit-making band that had first brought him success.
