Biography
During the zouk period, most Antilles performers essentially replicated Zairian soukous and thereby generated the unremarkable hybrid the author labeled “zoukous.” Guibert, however, achieved a balanced synthesis of African and Antillais elements that resulted in albums whose singular sonic character has since rendered them collector’s items. ~ Gene Scaramuzzo
