Biography
Following his 1970 departure from Jefferson Airplane, vocalist Marty Balin next joined forces with Bodacious D.F., the second ensemble to engage his talents. Earlier he had guided the affairs of Grootna yet contributed no vocals to that act’s only album. The Bay Area ensemble Bodacious D.F. comprised Mark Ryan (bass, vocals), Dewey Dagreaze (drums, vocals), Vic Smith (guitar, vocals), and Charlie Hickox (keyboards, vocals). In 1973 the group released its sole self-titled album, Balin’s first LP appearance since Jefferson Airplane’s 1969 Volunteers album. When Balin rejoined former Jefferson Airplane colleagues in Jefferson Starship during 1974, Bodacious D.F. remained a lone venture.
