Biography
Body Electric came together around 1983 with keyboardist Frank Ludwig, guitarist David Sinclair, keyboardist and saxophonist Bob Buckley, and drummer Ross Friesen. Songwriting and lead vocal duties rotated among most of the members. Each musician arrived with substantial prior credits: Ludwig had previously performed with Union and Trooper and appeared on at least one album during those stints, while Sinclair and Buckley had already collaborated as the duo Dogstar before continuing in Straight Lines. That partnership produced two albums, several hits, and a Juno Award nomination. Once operating as Body Electric, the quartet issued roughly four singles and a comparable number of albums between 1984 and 1987.
The group signed with Attic Records roughly a year after forming and promptly issued its debut single, “Stop the Music,” followed by a self-titled album that drew largely unfavorable notices. Lineup adjustments continued as the band rotated lead singers multiple times. Two additional singles and the sophomore album Two Worlds appeared in 1985, yet touring failed to expand the audience. Activity diminished further in 1986, when only a single release surfaced on Parallel One Records after Attic had withdrawn. The final album, Walking Through Walls, arrived in 1987 and represented the strongest material the group produced, though it arrived too late to reverse the band’s decline.
