Hailing from Compton, Boogie grew up in Long Beach surrounded by gospel music and gangbanging, influences that helped shape a style placing him in the company of Kendrick Lamar and Chance the Rapper. Following years spent rising through the underground during much of the late 2010s, he joined Shady Records and delivered his first full-length project, Everything's for Sale, in 2019.

Anthony Dixson was the name given at birth to the artist later known as Boogie, who dropped his opening mixtape, Thirst 48, during 2014. The Reach appeared the next year alongside the breakout track "Oh My," which Jahlil Beats handled in the studio. Audience momentum prompted the 2016 arrival of his third mixtape, Thirst 48 Part II. Late in 2017 he earned endorsement from Eminem and entered the veteran MC's Shady Records roster; his earliest release on the imprint, the Masego collaboration "Violence," surfaced that December. Additional singles surfaced across 2018 ahead of the January 2019 unveiling of his debut LP, Everything's for Sale, which included guest spots from JID on "Soho," tourmate 6lack on "Skydive II," and Eminem on "Rainy Days."

Dixson adopted the Westside Boogie moniker in 2020.
