Biography
The subversive electronic pop project Born Gold serves as the creative outlet for Canadian Cecil Frena, who earlier played in Edmonton, Alberta’s Gobble Gobble—the same group that later produced the kindred Purity Ring. Taking the Born Gold name in 2011, Frena put out several singles that were later compiled on his first album, Bodysongs. Performances under the Born Gold banner retain Gobble Gobble’s theatrical and interactive character, employing everyday items such as shovels and hockey helmets as instruments while prompting direct audience involvement. October 2012 brought Little Sleepwalker, a release more atmospheric and exploratory than the project’s debut.
