Biography
Led by Brazilian singer Márcia Barros, the Bossa Nossa project recasts modern Portuguese pop and rock standards in bossa nova form. A Rio de Janeiro native now residing in Porto, Portugal, Barros drew on her established vocal background for her first album under the Bossa Nossa banner, which arrived in 2009. Sony Music released the set O Melhor da Pop Portuguesa, Em Ritmo Bossa Nova, whose track list presents bossa nova treatments of material by Portuguese contemporary pop/rock artists such as Xutos & Pontapés ("Não Sou o Único"), Santos & Pecadores ("Fala-me de Amor"), Trovante ("Perdidamente"), and Madredeus ("O Pastor"). The album reached the Top Ten on the Portuguese albums chart and yielded the Top 20 single "Bairro do Amor," a 1989 original by singer/songwriter Jorge Palma.
