Hailing from Braunschweig in Germany, singer-songwriter Axel Bosse fronts the indie rock quartet that bears his surname, completed by guitarist Thorsten Sala, bassist Theofilos Fotiades, and drummer Björn Krüger. The band’s material blends melodic hooks with an upbeat tone while delivering reflective takes on everyday existence and romance. Their earliest release, the 2004 single Kraft, came out via Scoop Music, and the full-length debut Kamikazeherz followed on EMI in 2005. After issuing Guten Morgen Spinner the next year, the group parted ways with that label. Their third album, Taxi, surfaced on Fuego in 2009; Jochen Naaf handled production and the track 3 Millionen became a standout single. Vertigo then issued Wartesaal in 2011, and the band’s appearance on the Bundesvision Song Contest with Frankfurt Oder secured third place. Kraniche arrived as their fifth album in 2013, accompanied by a second Bundesvision performance; performing So Oder So earned them the top prize, and the record later achieved gold certification for surpassing 100,000 units sold. An elaborate, widely praised tour across Germany ensued, documented on the 2014 CD/DVD Kraniche: Live in Hamburg. Their sixth studio effort, the buoyant Engtanz, reached stores in 2016 and was supported by yet another round of live dates.
