Biography
Oli Bayston, the singer, songwriter, and producer fronting London's electropop outfit Boxed In, took the project's name from Francis Bacon's painting Head VI. During the mid-2000s he played in the Manchester band Keith; after that group disbanded he moved into studio work as engineer and assistant to producer Dan Carey while also penning material alongside the 2 Bears and George Fitzgerald. Setting up his own facility in Hackney, Bayston collaborated on writing and production with Lianne La Havas, Rose Elinor Dougall, and CocknBullKid's Anita Blay, yet still found time to form Boxed In, drawing from house-music figures such as Theo Parrish and the motorik pulse of Can and Neu!. He brought in Liam Hutton, Mark Nicholls, and Jack Benfield to complete the lineup, and the group issued its first single, All Your Love Is Gone, through Moshi Moshi's Singles Club in November 2013. Following a deal with Nettwerk, the track Run Quicker surfaced in mid-2014, and the self-titled debut album followed in January 2015. On the 2016 release Melt the band leaned further into its dancefloor foundations, with several cuts jointly produced by Carey and Bayston.
