Biography
The Ithaca, New York-based ensemble Boy with a Fish crafts a moody fusion of folk-rock and Americana, evoking visions of dilapidated barns dotting the roadways in the countryside of the northern regions. Its lineup features Jeff Claus handling guitars and vocals, Judy Hyman on electric violin, viola, and vocal, Rick Hansen contributing accordion and keyboards, Jay Olsa on bass, and Ryan Cady at the drums. As originators of the quirky bluegrass/alternative rock outfit the Horse Flies, Claus and Hyman share that history, while Olsa and Hansen also perform with Plastic Nebraska, and Cady splits his schedule appearing alongside Hubcap, a band of other locals from Ithaca. Their first album, Birds Fly Backwards, came out in April 2004 via Left Ear Records, with I Put My Tongue on the Window arriving afterward in 2011.
