Biography
Chris Adams of Hood first envisioned Bracken as an extension of the experimental grime he had begun shaping in 1997 through his Downpour alias. Yet once he started recording in his basement studio in Leeds, the material took an unforeseen turn toward slower and more introspective textures, leading him to follow that direction instead. Combining experimental impulses with indie electronica, the project meshed naturally with the Anticon roster after Adams had maintained contact with the label since 2001, the year Odd Nosdam, Doseone, and Why? contributed to Hood’s album Cold House. Anticon issued the single Heathen in fall 2006, then released the full-length We Know About the Need the following January.
