Brandon Patrick George first gained recognition as the flutist for Imani Winds, though his appearances as concerto soloist, orchestral musician, and interpreter of new music extend across multiple ensembles and contexts.

Dayton, Ohio, saw his birth in 1986 into a household without musicians; a flute glimpsed in a pawnshop window sparked his interest, and instructors at Residence Park Elementary School nurtured his initial progress. He later enrolled at the Stivers School for the Arts magnet program in the same city and received his diploma in 2004. Oberlin Conservatory became the next step, where Michel Debost served as his teacher, before private study with Sophie Cherrier in Paris. Returning stateside, he completed a master’s degree at the Manhattan School of Music and captured that institution’s concerto competition.

Recital engagements have taken him to Alice Tully Hall and Carnegie Hall in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington, and the Cité de la Musique in Paris. Orchestral affiliations include the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and International Contemporary Ensemble. Concerto performances feature the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra led by Robert Spano, the Albany Symphony Orchestra, the American Composers Orchestra, and additional ensembles. Further partnerships link him with Eighth Blackbird and the Jasper String Quartet. In 2018 he assumed the flute chair in Imani Winds, succeeding founding member Valerie Coleman.

Profil released his debut recording, Flute Sonatas & Solo Works: Bach, Boulez, Aho, Prokofiev, in 2020. For the project he performed on a platinum instrument crafted by Verne Powell for the 1939 New York World’s Fair and widely regarded as the most costly flute ever made. Twofold, a solo recital, appeared on the In a Circle label in 2023.
