Biography
In the 1990s four of Brazil’s leading guitarists united to create the Brazilian Guitar Quartet, whose members were Edelton Gloeden, Everton Gloeden, Tadeu do Amaral, and eight-string guitar master Paul Galbraith. Each musician had already established a flourishing solo career before the ensemble formed. Brazilian reviewers quickly labeled the foursome the Dream Team. The group issued its debut recording, Essencia do Brasil, on the Delos Records label in 1999, followed two years later by the album Cantamento. Favorable notices in journals such as Classical Guitar Magazine helped expand the quartet’s audience throughout Brazil, Japan, England, and the United States. The ensemble undertook numerous extended tours, appearing at festivals and concert halls across many countries. Among the instrumental selections featured on its recordings are “Allegro Scherzoso,” “Danca Negra,” “Cancao Sertaneja,” “Allegro Animato,” “Largo-Andante Expressivo,” and “Lundu.”
